Turkish Popular Music employed a lot of ACCOUSTIC [live non-electric] instruments like WESTERN VIOLINS, FLUTES, SAZ [Turkish Lute], etc. which all lack VOLUME and TONE MASS [thickness of sound]. When MULTI-TRACK [being able to record on one track at a time and hear back tracks previously recorded on a 24 track machine] recording hit Turkey, it suddenly meant that instruments could be DOUBLE TRACKED [recording the 12 VIOLINS on a track, say Track 04, and then record again on Track 05. Track 04 is sent to the left stereo channel and Track 05 is sent to the right stereo channel, giving an effect of 12 + 12 = 24 violins playing and close-mic]. Suddenly, like this song, ‘Efendim İşitmedim’, electronic tricks and effects gave Turkish Popular Music the TONE MASS power to build ‘walls of sound’ that were thick and powerful, if not artificial.
